DELL XPS 8700 WIN7 SAYS I HAVE GENERIC BLUETOOTH ADAPTER WINDOWS 8.1
I am positive this will be my last computer purchase, so, based on what you all say I am going to go with windows 8.1 and Word 2013 (omg, another learning curve). I am currently using a 720 xps which I think is at least 7 - 8 years old and I can just HEAR it wanting to give up on me. HA, I was a little upset over missing out on the 4tb model (Dell was offering through Costco) and then this one presented itself.Īm i a gamer, no, but my fear has always been that by the time I can afford it, it is already too slow for what I will need so I try to splurge and then watch it become outdated.

Wow, for as much as I can understand (and I have become MUCH more savvy with your help since I joined this amazing group) you have done a lot of investigations just for me - thank-you. If not, get something cheaper and Office 2013 with only some of the money you save. If you plan to, I don't know, play video games or watch 2 HD streams at once, fine. I program all day on a machine somewhere between a quarter and a third as powerful as this one. No disrespect, but I think it's massively overpowered for your needs.

There's a free trial on Microsoft's website. Office 2013 is much better and simpler than 2003, and I do think if you give it a chance you'll like it.It'll be considerably more hassle for you to downgrade to Windows 7 than to just use 8.That's about all the info I could find at a short glance. Not 100% sure if the media-card reader will work on Windows 7, but Dell do offer an application for this device ("Foxconn Icon Manager Application") that they say will work on Windows 7. I have found complaints online regarding the keyboard's multimedia keys not working on Windows 7.

The audio chipset is a Realtek ALC3861, which has Windows 7 drivers available. This is like asking a car dealer to tell you more about this 2014 Toyota Corolla and him saying "It has wheels! And windows too!" Wireless Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology Network adapter 10/100/1000 Mbps integrated network card I am just looking for any other helpful ideas. You are unlikely to be able to affect this."

"a specific subset of programmers will, those working on the driver teams of the people providing dell with the hardware. Good information from The Boardroom forum when I asked if a programmer could do this Know to tell is to try it out and see what happens". As an example, it may be something inconvenient, like some of the performanceĮnhancements being non-functional, or it may be something serious, like all of the USB ports just not working. Or other issues showing in the Device manager. The system will likely function but may have unknown devices

Without testing it I can’t tell what devices may be missing drivers. It may work but we cannot promise that there will be drivers for everything. "Dell has not tested Windows 7 on the newest models. I want to downgrade to Windows 7 and this is what one Dell person said:
DELL XPS 8700 WIN7 SAYS I HAVE GENERIC BLUETOOTH ADAPTER WINDOWS 8
I have this chance to buy a great loaded Dell XPS computer (from Dell) but it HAS to have Windows 8 pre-installed. Is this the forum to ask such a question? Will a genius programmer be able to make this ALL work for me? Is it possible to know. The only way I know to tell is to try it out and see what happens". As an example, it may be something inconvenient, like some of the performance enhancements being non-functional, or it may be something serious, like all of the USB ports just not working. The system will likely function but may have unknown devices or other issues showing in the Device manager. I want to have it changed (for lack of a better word from a layperson) to Windows 7 and this is what one Dell tech says: I have this chance to buy a great loaded Dell XPS computer but it HAS to have Windows 8 pre-installed. That said, Windows 8 changes all of that. I still like the old log cabin and outdoor facilities (smiles). I am still using Word 2003 and I love it, I'm old and do not want to progress too far.
